Science Kids is a fun science discovery programme for year 5 students (9-10 year olds), delivered in partnership with Otago Museum. The sessions are hands-on and highly interactive with the children taking part in exciting demonstrations and performing their own experiments with Otago Museum’s specialist science equipment. Students visit the Museum’s Discovery World Tropical Forest, examine real fossils, create exciting chemical reactions, use high-powered microscopes and visit special behind-the-scenes places in the Museum that are normally off-limits to the public.
The programme runs over eight weeks, with every second session held at Otago Museum. Science Kids is a free programme, with no cost to families or schools and free afternoon snacks are provided at each session.
Outcomes for Participants:

- An ongoing interest in science and a connection with Otago Museum
- Increased life-skills, self-confidence and personal wellbeing
Science Kids is funded by Te Pūtahitanga o Te Waipounamu.
