Stepping stones and thrones
What can you do with a round of wood? Well if you are a small person, a round of wood – better still a number of rounds of wood – has almost infinite possibilities. So when Dennis and Gaynor Hayes gifted some rounds of wood to Milton Little Citizens recently, the children found a whole lot of things to do with them …
They use them as stepping stones, for balancing. Sometimes the rounds are seats for Goldilocks’ breakfast, or even a throne...
Thank you Dennis and Gaynor… these simple rounds of wood are simply wonderful!
Sausages and smiles
Family and community gatherings are a big feature at Milton Little Citizens, and their recent family Barbeque was no exception. What made it extra special for staff was that one of the parents was able to provide the sausages for free. Jared works as a butcher at a local supermarket, and he was able to contact Murray at Hellers … Would they provide sausages for the BBQ? Yes they would, and they did!
So a big thank you to Hellers, and also to Jared for thinking of such a great way to show his support for Milton Little Citizens.
Crowe Horwath – Financial Services and community impact!
When Methodist Mission Southern began its work refurbishing what would be the Milton Little Citizens Early Childcare Centre, they put the
call out to local businesses for extra support – government funding only goes so far!
The Milton office of Crowe Horwath (part of Findex) responded immediately, with the offer of a generous donation from the Findex Community Fund.
Crowe Horwath as part of Findex are leading providers of integrated financial solutions, offering a complete range of financial services to assist with financial and lifestyle goals and objectives. The Findex Community Fund was initiated to give back to the communities Findex and Crowe Horwath are connected to through their network of 110 offices across Australia and New Zealand.
Supporting families in the area has definitely made an impact to our community – mission accomplished!
Books and Muffins and a Dog - Milton Little Citizens at the library
Milton Little Citizens already has a great relationship with the Milton Library, visiting often with the children. The other day a staff member was at the library at the same time as library staff were clearing books that hadn’t been borrowed. MLC were able to sort through the books no longer wanted at the library, and Viv was able to take away a banana box full of bright colourful reading for the Centre.
The children helped to bake muffins as a thank you and while these were being delivered to the library the children met up with Scruffy library dog and the local Animal Control Officer…. This has led to further contacts and in the near future Animal Control will come to MLC to teach the children about being safe around dogs.… one thing leads to another…
Rachael Masterton, individual supporter
Rachael Masterton is a great supporter of the Methodist Mission Southern. She contributes fortnightly, and when special fund-raising opportunities come up – like the Youth Transition House Ōtepoti– she even gets her Girls Brigade area involved!
Rachael discovered that if she made her regular donation through the Mission’s Givealittle page, her employer would also contribute – making Rachael’s gift even more effective. So now that’s what she does.
Givealittle includes payroll giving as an option in their Givealittle Plans (https://givealittle.co.nz/content/howgivealittleworks/givealittle-plan) so you can find out more there.
Thank you Rachael – and your Girls’ Brigade girls – for your practical support!
